apartments barcelona L'Eixample Derecha is a very particular district filled with classical buildings. The district is filled with little shops and bars, and in the area near the Arc d'Triomf there are lots of Chinese clothing shops.

At the bottom of Eixample Derecha lies Parc Estació del Nord, a park which is situated next to a large bus station. This is a nice park, perfect for reading a book or just relaxing. Centrally in the park stand two blue paved sculptures by artist Beverley Pepper, and it is nice to see how the statues are intertwined with the park. The park also contains a small arena filled with a large diversity of trees.

Plaza Tetuan is a large roundabout on one of the largest streets in Barcelona, the Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes, in the middle of a park. It is nice to see how this beautiful small green landscape functions as a roundabout.

Teatre National the Catalunya is the latest theatre of Barcelona. This beautiful, Roman building has been designed by native Barcelona architect Ricard Bofill. Next to the theatre lies L'auditori de Barcelona. This is a concert building, with two large concert rooms. This building was designed by world-renowned architect Rafael Moneo.

Plaza de Torres is the only remaining bullring in Barcelona in which bullfights still take place each year. It is an impressive building, which looks a bit like a mosque, and makes for a nice stop on a visit to this area.

The Sagrada Familia is the most famous building in Barcelona. This impressive cathedral is the work of Antonio Gaudi, it is full of symbols which have been inspired by nature. In 1883, a year after they started building it as a neo-gothic church, Gaudi was asked to finish the construction, and ended up changing the design drastically. Gaudi lived on-site for 16 years and is buried in the crypt below the cathedral. At the time of his death only 4 of the 12 towers were finished. This master work of Gaudi is not expected to be completed until 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death.

apartments barcelona The Iglesia de les Saleses is an extremely beautiful little church, designed by Antonio Gaudi's teacher, Joan Mortorell Montells. He lived from 1833 to 1906. The church is still used for wedding ceremonies today.

Casa Terrades, also known as Casa de les Punxes looks a bit like a castle. Designed by Puig I Cadafalch between 1903 and 1905, it is said to be his most elaborate work, featuring a mixture of medieval and renaissance styles.

Another fascinating site in this area is the Puríssima Concepción, a 13th century church situated next to the 14-15th century convent with a beautiful interior courtyard. In the close surroundings of this church lies the Passatge de Permanyer. This is a splendid small street featuring a chain of beautiful old houses and buildings. At night it is closed by an old iron gate, but by day is it open to the public.

On the outskirts of the Eixample Derecha lies plaza Urquinaona, a small square near plaza de Catalunya. On this square stands the Torre de Urquinaona, covered with large earth-toned tiles.

For people who are missing the Netherlands in Barcelona, there is a bar called Bar Amsterdam. This is small bar, on the road d'Arago. You can order you drinks in Dutch, and you can enjoy real Dutch music and snacks. It makes for a pleasant evening.
